Before Christmas break, all sixth grade students had to choose an artifact, research it, then designed a presentation about the artifact. The artifact I chose was the ancient Egyptian funerary cone. The reason I chose it was because no one really knew what it was, and neither did I before I started researching. So then when I did my presentation it wouldn't be as boring because it would be all new information. I was about to get a water bottle and shape the cone around it with clay, but then my mom suggested getting cardboard paper and rolling it into a cone. That worked so much easier because the clay wouldn't stick to the plastic bottle, but actually stuck to the paper. To make it strong on the inside, I stuffed it with plastic bags so it would not collapse. After I covered the whole outside of the cone with clay and stuffed the inside, I filled the rest of the top with clay. I then wrote my name in hieroglyphics on the top. The problem with using the funerary cone for my artifact was that there were only theories of what they are used for. There was not much scientific research put into discovering the funerary cone either. This experience definitely taught me that having good research doesn't cut it, you need to have repetitive rehearsal.

Freedom with the Blacks and Slavery in Books
The other Side by Jacqueline Woodson illustrates the fact: when something is wrong in society changes are needed to be made. Here is a quote from the story: "My mama says I shouldn't go on the other side," I said. "My mama says the same thing. But she never said nothing 'bout sittin' on it." "Neither did mine," I said. This portrays how when society is unfair individuals can find smart ways to stand up. Like in freedom summer the character

Freedom Summer (Owen)
In Freedom Summer by Deborah Wiles, the theme is clearly: discrimination. The author teaches us about the black discrimination and delivers a powerful message at the same time. This book is a bit like pink and say, for in both books the two kids break stereotypical archetypes by being friends with a different race. The first time they went to the store John Henry wasn't aloud to go inside the store to buy an ice pop. The second time John Henry walked into the store with his head held high. This portrays the pride John Henry has to be equal with the whites. This book makes me realize how retarted the discrimination was. I encourage you to read this book.

World War II Primary Sources Station
The Daily Life of a Civilian in World War II
By Daniel, Owen and Aiden
It is clear the wars in Europe during world war II were a huge part of civilian’s live’s. Walking down the street, an individual would encounter propaganda, news, and even people that work for the army. War is integrated to even more unexpected text like recipes for example ‘Cooking after the Blitz’. London and Nazi Germany were at war in WW2, and both countries were convincing the citizen of that country to fight for their country with propaganda - such as "You want freedom? Fight!", and other silly advertisements. Although the advertisements were quite unneeded, since families were convinced long before that, and fully believed to protect their country. This belief spread throughout the generations and soon most of London was helping to fight.
Hitler talked with Mussolini about this new world and started to make the decision to attack Norway, so Germany was winning the war right there.

Freidrich
The book Friedrich, by Hans Peter Richter, is a classic book about the Holocaust. The perspective is first person, the narrater is a Christian who's best friend and his family are Jews. A real point in history is when in 1941 the Jewish citizens of Germany had to wear stars. Another real event was in the second world war in 1942 the Germans were bombed by hundreds of bombers. The Schneiders are expected to be scared around the the nazis, for they are being tormented everyday.
