Sun Unit for 美术课 or Art

First of all, we did brainstorming. I dividend my paper into four quarters, then sketched four draft ideas into the boxes.

Mr.K and I chose the first box.

I then I sketched a full size rough draft. Once I was happy with it, I used the light table to trace it on to my final. I put my final to the side then colored in the full size rough draft. I drew the sun, the light and the planets in colored pencils. For the darkness I used black acrylic paint.
Now I'm coloring and painting in my rough draft.

Here is the final result:

Myth Story- Long Lost Family

Long Lost Family

Story of Mars and Vulcan
By Owen Fitz

“Mars my son,” boomed the mighty Zeus, “I have a quest for you.” Mars advanced over and bowed down to the King of the Gods.
“What would that quest be father?” examined Mars. Mars gazed around Zeus’s glimmering palace in Olympus. Marvelous statues enriched the palace. Murals and portraits lined the walls. Someday I will live in such luxury, he pondered.
“I need you to retrieve the scroll for the banquet.” Zeus said. The room went silent for a while. After all, the scroll was one of the most important items in the god and titan banquet, and Zeus didn’t even have his hands on them! The god and titan banquet, a banquet where gods and titans unite and discuss the problems in the planet, came every four years. The reason the scroll was so important was because it forbade the ten worst things that would happen to the earth, the gods or the mortals in the next four years. The gods and titans would prevent these to keep the world going. The scroll would appear in random places around the world every four years.
“It is a dangerous quest as you know, father,” Mars replied, “but I will still do it.” Mars knew how important it was to Zeus to get the scroll before the banquet. “I have only one question father.” Mars continued.
“Yes Mars.” he replied.
“I would like to ask if there is anything in this for me,” replied Mars “for this is a journey could mean life and death.” Mars felt chills run down his spine as he thought it was a greedy request.
“Ah Mars,” Zeus replied, “I have one gift that I always had in store for you.” Mars flushed with relief and lifted his head up. “I was just waiting for the right time to award it to you” Zeus said as he stood up from his throne and led Mars to a room. They twisted and weaved through a number of corridors until they came to a small red door. Silver bumps dotted the door.  He yanked a key that was chained around his neck and unlocked the door. “It is actually now a gift for whoever can retrieve the scroll, but you are the only one I told about this.” Bright glimmering lights blinded him as he gazed in. In the room sat was a golden chest. “In here lay your gift Mars,” he explained, “but you must chose to earn it.”
“Of course father,” Mars responded, “you will get the scroll before two days pass.” Mars turned around and walked out of the palace. He took a Pegasus and started flying it to Sicily, Italy, the place where the scroll was.
It was a lengthy journey from mount Olympus to Sicily. As he stepped off his horse his stomach roared. Mars gazed around and spotted a large house on a hill. It was shaped like a triangle with green pole sticking out the sides. He opened the door and peered inside. this is a surprisingly nice interior for such an odd looking outside, he thought. “I am Mars, the son of Zeus.” he announced, “I request for some food and shelter.” No replies. Mars stepped inside and wandered around the shiny marble house.
Suddenly Mars was struck in the back of the head. Mars quickly drew his sword and turned to point it at the attacker. The man was old with a bushy white beard. “How dare you attack a god?” screamed Mars, “you are insane!” The old man dropped the rod which he hit Mars with an fell to his knees.
“Please lord Mars, spare my life! I will do anything to help you! I thought you w-were none other than an intruder! I am slightly deaf and I couldn’t hear you over the sounds of my swinging poles! Please don’t-”
“Silence!” Mars didn’t bother asking what the poles were. Instead he requested for a meal and a bed.
The next day Mars asked the man to follow him to the cave wear the scroll were. Mar’s plan was to sacrifice the man to giant who owned the cave, so in return Mars would collect the scroll and return them to Zeus.
In the sky behind them, they could see a ball of white fire whizzing past. The ball of fire came closer and closer to them until in crushed the old man. Gazing at the body burning in the flames, Mars was enraged. Before he could scream to ask who sent the ball of fire and killed the man, another ball of fire started whizzing towards Mars. It missed him dramatically and landed 20 meters in front of him.  From the flames emerged the Greek god of fire, Vulcan.  “Greetings Mars,” greeted Vulcan, “I do apologize for the loss of your mortal companion-”
“You fool!” shot back Mars, “he wasn’t my companion, but bait!” Mars yelled.
“Well Mars, if you haven’t realized, us gods do not allow mortals to live who have attacked gods!” Vulcan argued.
“I wasn’t going to let him live!” Mars continued. After that everything went silent for a while. “Well I better go retrieve the scroll for Zeus and collect the prize.” Vulcan looked puzzled.
“What prize?” he asked.
“Whoever retrieves the scroll for Zeus wins a golden chest with a grand prize inside.” Mars replied. Mars suddenly realized he had give too much information and Vulcan was about to go to try and retrieve the scroll. With that, they both bolted towards the cave which was about a kilometer away.
Mars took the lead by the time he got to the cave. He sprinted in and spotted the engravings in the wall where the scroll was behind. “Who dares enter my cave?” boomed a voice.
“Mars, son of Zeus,” Mars replied, “in your cave lay a special cargo that I must retrieve.” With that, Mars pounded his fist through the rock wall of the cave to find a small tunnel. Mars crawled through. At the end of the tunnel there was a pitch-black room where the scroll obviously was. Mars felt his way through until he lay his hands on a body. “Ah!” Mars yelled in shock. Suddenly a flame sparked to life in the hand of the body. The flame belonged to Vulcan. With the light they could both easily see the roll of paper. Vulcan easily grabbed it first and bolted out.
When they both exited the cave Mars hurled his spear into the back of Vulcan. “MARS!” Vulcan screamed. Vulcan returned the attack by shooting lava out of the ground. He kept trying to use it to hit Mars but he couldn’t. They ended up breaking out in a hand-to-hand combat fight.
A flash of light whizzed through the sky, then Zeus appeared beside them. They immediately stopped fighting and got to their feet. Behind them, the lava was still spewing out of the ground. “Mars what is this?” Zeus questioned. Mars hesitated a second to rehearse what he would say.
“Father, I rightfully retrieved the scroll and brought it out of the cave, but Vulcan attacked me and tried to steal-”
“Are you mad?” Vulcan interrupted, “I brought the scroll out then you attacked me!” he continued.
“I can’t stand this. You are acting like children!” Zeus scolded. Then he called out to Apollo, the god of truth, for an answer. He appeared in a flash of light, landing on the lake of lava.
“Ah!” he yelled. Apollo jumped out then greeted his father. “Greetings Mars!” Apollo said to his brother.
“Hello Apollo,” replied Mars. Zeus told Mars to find the truth of who deserved the scrolls. Apollo looked into Mars’s eyes. He knew Vulcan rightfully had the scrolls, but he couldn't let his brother down. There was a huge lump in Mars’s throat. This can’t be happening, he thought. If Apollo said he was guilty, he would be punished for eternity!
“Vulcan,” Apollo announced, “is guilty.” Vulcan dropped to his knees. Apollo the god of light and truth lied! And there was no way he could prove him wrong.
Zeus lifted his lightning bolt behind his head and fired it a Vulcan. The lava that was spewing out of the ground wouldn’t stop. It dried and grew into a huge volcano that is now the worlds most active volcano. The gift was presented to Mars and Apollo. The brothers could not possibly ask for any richer treasures. Mars decided to share it evenly with his brother.
“You, the god of light and truth, lied! I can’t get over the fact,” Mar’s whispered.
“Well Mars, sometimes its okay to lie when supporting your family. Isn’t it now?”

Disease Spreading

First of all, you should generally keep the sick away from the healthy as much as possible. You can't drink out of the same bottles and cups as the sick do unless they are thoroughly washed. Especially if you aren't sick, you should constantly wash your hands. Keep your hands away from your nose, eyes, mouth, and ears. The reason for this is, you touch everything with your hands, and during a time when there are many people sick, germs are everywhere. Your nose, eyes, mouth and ears are all passageways for stuff to get into your body, so if you touch those places when you might have germs on your hands, the germs could travel straight into your body. A trade off for this is, it isn't really fair for the people who are sick. They would mainly be isolated the whole duration of their illness.

My PE Goal

My goal is to have more dairy each meal, so I will have milk at lunch. I normally only have a bit of dairy at breakfast, the milk in the cereal, so I need more dairy.

Why Breakfast is the most Important meal of the Day

First of all the meaning is breakfast is important to know. The 'break' part means break, and fast means to not eat. So breakfast is breaking the fast, in other words its finally eating after a long period without eating. Another basic reason is you use the most energy in the day is after breakfast. After lunch you still use energy, but just until you sleep. In addition, people who eat breakfast are more alert. If you eat breakfast in the morning you won't feel hungry. If you feel hungry you are most likely to eat a bunch of junk.

Ancient Eqyptian Artifact

Before Christmas break, all sixth grade students had to choose an artifact, research it, then designed a presentation about the artifact. The artifact I chose was the ancient Egyptian funerary cone. The reason I chose it was because no one really knew what it was, and neither did I before I started researching. So then when I did my presentation it wouldn't be as boring because it would be all new information. I was about to get a water bottle and shape the cone around it with clay, but then my mom suggested getting cardboard paper and rolling it into a cone. That worked so much easier because the clay wouldn't stick to the plastic bottle, but actually stuck to the paper. To make it strong on the inside, I stuffed it with plastic bags so it would not collapse. After I covered the whole outside of the cone with clay and stuffed the inside, I filled the rest of the top with clay. I then wrote my name in hieroglyphics on the top. The problem with using the funerary cone for my artifact was that there were only theories of what they are used for. There was not much scientific research put into discovering the funerary cone either. This experience definitely taught me that having good research doesn't cut it, you need to have repetitive rehearsal.

Reaction Time Experiment

This is an video to tell you how to test the speed of your nerves, or reaction.

You need to find a worthy partner, two rubber bands and two 30cm rulers. Then you figure out who is testing, and who is being tested. Watch the video to see how to do the procedure. Our hypothesis was that the dominant hand would be faster than the non-dominant hand.

The independent variable is how long it takes to catch the ruler. The dependent variable  is the difference between the reaction of the dominant and non-dominant hand. And the controlled variables are where the ruler drops from, position of arms,  position of fingers etc.

Steps:
1.Get a friend or a family member to do this experiment with you.

2.Put a rubber band around you index finger and
your thumb make sure that you don't put too much pressure on the rubber band you should just put enough that the rubber band won't stretch too much just a little.

3. Get your partner to line up the ruler with your index finger you should align the 0 centimetre point with your index finger.

4. Your partner will drop the ruler unexpectedly then you have to catch the ruler before it falls down on the floor. Lets say you got a hold of the ruler at 6cm then you have to record it on to a graph.
